Henry Watsworth LONGFELLOW (1807-1882)

Poète américain aux nombreux poèmes célèbres dont The Song of Hiawatha et Evangeline, il a vécu principalement à Cambridge, dans le Massachusetts, près de l'université d'Harvard. Il a commencé sa carrière comme bibliothécaire avant de devenir professeur de langues modernes et de travailler jusqu'à la fin de sa vie à Harvard.

And above, in the light

Of the star-lit night,

Swift birds of passage wing their flight

Through the dewy atmosphere.

Murmurs of pleasures, and pains, and wrongs,
